Instacart is a redesign project that examines an existing product experience and deconstructs it by evaluating its strengths and weaknesses in all aspects of design. Then we will redesign one flow of the product to improve the user experience. My partner (Annie) and I chose this product because during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people, including our family members, began looking for a grocery delivery service to buy groceries and essentials due to the fears of contracting the virus. However, based on our experience of using shopping services, we found that Instacart’s shopping experience is not user-friendly for new users to understand. Therefore, we aim to improve the shopping flow to reduce the confusion for the new users and help existing users save time while shopping.

Original Flow
Product Validation on Original App
Before we started to redesign the shopping flow, we conducted eight user interviews. First, we let users complete a shopping process by finding an item, selecting it, adding it to the shopping cart, and checking it out. And then, we observed where eight users got stuck and what is the reason for that when they were completing the shopping process. Meanwhile, they would also give us feedback on what confused them and what they liked about the App.
Key Findings
After my teammate and I gathered feedback, we found some major pain points that we can solve.
New site architecture
We redesigned the site architecture and reduced repeated information. And then diving into digital wireframing on Adobe XD for shopping flow.
Lofi Wireframes
HiFi V1 Flowchart
User Testing
After finishing the first version of the wireframes, We then prototyped our wireframes and did usability tests with our users to validate our designs. We conducted eight users to test our prototype. We set the tasks and let users complete them to discover which area of design works and which needs to improve.
Final Solutions
Based on the user testing and feedback from the 1st version, we made adjustments.

Redesigned Item Detailed Page
Redesigned Personal Cart Page
Conclusion
What I learned from this redesign project is how to understand users’ behaviors and needs by conducting user research to solve the user’s problems. I also learned how collaboration with my teammate is essential when making a design decision so that we can design a better solution for users.
